Threads:
For me, thread is not only a material but a way of thinking. I work with it while acknowledging its fragility, understanding that this very condition is what gives it strength. In this piece, a series of vibrant polyester threads intertwines with a manually shaped PLA structure, creating a suspended network of connections. The intense colour draws the eye towards an object that appears light and playful, yet beneath that surface lies a delicate architecture capable of holding together what might otherwise fall apart.
Working with thread is, for me, a meditative gesture and a way of connecting: with oneself and with the community that surrounds us. Each strand depends on the others; none can sustain itself for long on its own. This brooch shifts my textile practice toward something more object-like, something that can be carried on the body.
Having studied the historical relationship between textiles and women, and drawing from a feminist line of thought, my work reflects on the importance and power that something considered merely decorative can hold. At a time when systems seem to tighten and unravel, I return to thread as a possibility for connection and community, as a way of imagining other ways of being and sustaining ourselves collectively.
